Work life of an EKG Technician

The healthcare department is not just about doctors and nurses. It is a lot more than that. There are other people who play an important role. From medical assistants to EKG Technician, all of these folks work together with the doctor and the nurses to help the patients.

An EKG is a technician who works with the doctors to specialize in EKG testing of the patients. This process takes place by fixing wires to the chest, arms and legs.

Roles & Responsibilities 
As an EKG Technician, you will work in a separate room to conduct the electrocardiogram test. The testing takes place with a device known as an  EKG machine. This machine consists of 12 wires which are fixed to specific parts of the body. While the test if taking place, you are responsible to take the readings of the patient's heart activity. Also, make sure that the wires are fixed properly.
This entire procedure takes 5 minutes. Once the procedure is finished, you will be responsible to take out a printout of the tests and share it with the doctor.
Once all this is done, you will prepare the room and the machine for your next patient.
In order to become an EKG technician, you have to be expertly trained in the following areas:

Where Will You Perform Your Duties?
An EKG Technician can perform his tasks in different environments. While some of them work in hospitals, others can work with cardiologists and help them in their practice. Medical clinics and healthcare departments are other choices too.

Is There Stress Involved?
There isn’t a heavy amount of stress involved. But there are days when you might have a high volume of patients and harried physicians ask for the test results as early as possible. In such situations, having strong interpersonal skills can be advantageous.

Are EKG Technicians’ Job Duties Physically Demanding?
Being an EKG Technician needs physical stamina. You will have to work for a long time. Also, you will be responsible for carrying heavy machines from one healthcare department to another.
